Irish Language Immersion Course 2025

Butte, Montana

July 19 – 26 2025

FÁILTE | WELCOME

Experience authentic Irish language and culture in Butte, Montana – often called "the most Irish city in the USA." Our immersive courses blend captivating history, vibrant language learning, and exciting cultural experiences, including traditional sports, music, and song.

STAIR | HISTORY

The first Irish language and culture immersion camps were established in the Gaeltachtaí of Ireland in 1901. These pioneering programs quickly became a cornerstone of the movement to preserve Ireland's rich Gaelic heritage. Situated in vibrant Irish-speaking communities, students were immersed in the living culture, learning the language, music, and dance firsthand. Upon returning home, they took on the role of ambassadors, sharing their newfound knowledge and experiences within their communities.

The significant impact of early camps in preserving Irish culture cannot be overstated. This summer’s course in Butte aims to recreate this transformative experience, offering students the chance to connect with their ancestral heritage. By nurturing a deep appreciation for the Irish language and culture, we hope to inspire a new generation of cultural ambassadors in the United States.

CÚRSAÍ | COURSES

This year, three courses (levels) are being offered:

  • Beginning Irish I

  • Intermediate Irish I

  • Advanced Irish I

CURACLAM | CURRICULUM

The primary goal of all three courses is to enhance the students' conversational skills in the Irish language. Classes start at 9:00 AM and run until 4:30 PM, with each session lasting one hour. There is a 30-minute break between classes, allowing students to collaborate and review the material covered. The course spans 7 days and includes a total of 45 hours of instruction.

Evenings are free for students to study or participate in recreational activities with their peers. There is plenty to explore in Butte, and many enjoy taking evening walks, discovering the historic old town, and visiting the various sites that commemorate the history of the Irish in the area. Rest assured, you won’t be bored!
